Program Overview
The Urban League of Union County, in collaboration with Grades4life, launched the Youth Entrepreneurship Program—an 8-week initiative aimed at inspiring and cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit among youth aged 12-18. The program engaged 12 students from across Union County, empowering them to envision, plan, and pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. Through this initiative, participants enhanced their financial literacy, communication skills, and explored the feasibility of business planning at a young age, setting the foundation for their future success in the business world.
Partnerships & Mentorship
A key component of the Youth Entrepreneurship Program was the involvement of local business owners and professionals who served as guest speakers and mentors. Notable contributors included Board Member and Author Jason Vitug, and Adam Bell, Owner of Pens of America. These mentors provided invaluable real-life experiences and guidance on operating and managing a business. Under their mentorship, participants developed their business concepts, crafted business plans, designed marketing strategies, and prepared pitches.
Business Pitch Competition
The program concluded with an exciting “Shark Tank” style business pitch competition held at UCNJ Union College. Participants presented their business ideas to a panel of distinguished guest judges, including Eric Henry of Bluepoint Wind, Lenny Williams from NJCU, and Adam Bell of Pens of America. Three teams were awarded prize money as seed funding to help kickstart their businesses, marking the culmination of their hard work and innovative thinking.
